I recently tried a Yarnbow resin crochet hook in size J / 6.0 mm, and overall, I found it to be a very nice hook.

One of the first things I noticed was that it felt strong and sturdy, especially for a resin hook. In the past, I’ve used resin hooks that felt like they might bend or even break if I put too much pressure on them. That was not my experience with this Yarnbow hook. It felt secure in my hand, and I was comfortable really working with it without worrying that it would bend or snap.

I also found that the hook had good glide with the yarn. I tested it with both a size 5 bulky yarn and a size 4 medium worsted weight yarn. It seemed to work better for me with the bulky yarn. With the size 4, I noticed a bit more struggle, although I cannot say for certain whether that was because of the hook itself, the yarn, or simply my own comfort level with that yarn weight.

Another big plus is the appearance. The hook is beautiful, with a lovely green marbled effect. Resin hooks often have a very attractive look, and this one is no exception.

As for drawbacks, my biggest one is that it is very lightweight. I know that will actually be a benefit for some crocheters, but personally, I prefer a hook with a little more weight to it. I also noticed that the tip felt a bit sharp, and every now and then I experienced some yarn splitting. Again, I cannot say with full confidence whether that was due to the hook, the yarn, or a combination of both, but it was something I noticed during use.

Overall, I did enjoy using this hook. It is a beautiful, sturdy resin hook that feels more durable than many resin hooks I have tried before. That said, when compared to a metal streamline-style hook, it would not be my first reach. For me, in the lineup of metal, resin, and wood hooks, this Yarnbow hook would be my second grab — I still reach for metal first, resin second, and wood last.

So while it may not replace my favorite metal hooks, I do think this Yarnbow hook is a solid option, especially for someone who enjoys resin hooks and wants one that feels stronger and more dependable.
