Summer Stash Bash x Soap S.A.C.K.

Summer Stash Bash 2026: Crocheting for a Cause with Soap S.A.C.K.

Welcome to the 2026 Summer Stash Bash!

This year, Yarn Over Hook is partnering with S.A.C.K., which stands for Supporting A Community with Kindness, to turn our yarn stashes into handmade comfort, practical care, and global goodwill.

S.A.C.K. is a grassroots initiative founded by Stacy Wiener to help provide essential toiletries to underserved communities. Many people cannot use government assistance programs like SNAP to purchase hygiene products, which makes donations like soap, shampoo, and other toiletries especially meaningful.

Through this year’s Summer Stash Bash, we are inviting the Yarn Over Hook community to use yarn they already have, crochet beginner-friendly projects, and help us reach one shared goal.

Our Goal: 1,000 Soap Sacks Donated

Together, we are aiming to crochet and donate 1,000 soap sacks worldwide during the 2026 Summer Stash Bash.

Each soap sack should be made with cotton or cotton-blend yarn and include a full-size bar of soap in its original packaging. These finished sacks can be donated locally to food pantries, food banks, homeless shelters, veteran clinics, social service organizations, or other community support groups near you.

The Golden Rules of the Bash

The Summer Stash Bash is all about using what we already have and turning it into something meaningful.

Stash First: Try not to buy new yarn for this event. The only exceptions are for travel, custom orders, or finishing an existing project.

Free Featured Patterns: We will feature 8 free, beginner-friendly patterns over the 8 weeks, including two original soap sack designs by Samantha and Alexis.

Make What You Can: One soap sack matters. Ten soap sacks matter. A basket full of soap sacks matters. Every contribution helps.

Soap Sack Donation Guidelines

To make sure donations are useful and aligned with S.A.C.K.’s guidance, please follow these guidelines:

Yarn Material: Soap sacks should be made with cotton or cotton-blend yarn.

Please Include the Soap: Every donated soap sack should include a full-size bar of soap in its original packaging.

Donate Locally: Please donate your finished soap sacks in your local community whenever possible. Look up food pantries, food banks, homeless shelters, veteran clinics, social service agencies, or other community organizations near you.
