Hello, crochet friends, and welcome back to your number Hook. My name is Sammi, and in today’s video, I’m going to show you how to do an extended single crochet or in UK terms an extended double crochet.

This stitch is a really fun variation to the single crochet. I think it adds really nice thickness and sturdiness to a project, making it perfect for a washcloth, a scarf, blanket, maybe even a sweater, I would definitely give that one a try. So, let’s hop to it.

Let’s start by inserting our hook into that next stitch. You’ll end up with a V and a loop from your feeding yard on your hook.

Yarn over and pull through that stitch.

Now, you have two loops on your hook.

Yarn over and pull through that first loop only. You once again have two loops on your hook.

Yarn over, and pull through those two loops. And that’s it.

Let’s do it one more time.

Inert your hook into the next stitch. Yarn over, and pull through.

Yarn over and pull through that first loop only.

That actually creates a chain. This is what gives the extension to that single crochet, making it an extended single crochet.

    Isn’t that neat?

When you yarn over here and pull through both of those loops, that creates a single crochet on top of that chain.

Now, I want to show you what this stitch looks like in comparison with a single crochet and a double crochet.

I’m going to slip stitch here to lower the yarn.

First, the single crochet, then our extended single crochet.

See how much taller that is than a single crochet?

And lastly, our double crochet. Look at that. So here you have our single crochet.

Here’s the extended single crochet, and here is the double crochet.

See the height difference here? That extended single crochet is a perfect medium between the double crochet and a single crochet.

It’s a little bit taller than a half double crochet, which is why I really like it.

    Let’s do one last stitch.

Insert your hook. Yarn over, pull through.
Yarn over, pull through that first loop only.

Yarn over, pull through those last two loops.

    And there you have it.
