• For the love of Furls: How Furls Saved My Crochet Hobby

Posted by Kelli on November 24, 2025 at 12:57 PM

I started crocheting in March of 2025, full of excitement, but I almost gave up on the hobby entirely because of constant tension issues. I was either way too loose or far too tight. When my tension was loose, my projects looked sloppy and wonky. When it was too tight, I struggled to work into the stitches, which made every row frustrating.

I tried everything: Clover, Tulip, and even a few random hooks from starter kits I had picked up. They’re all good, affordable tools and excellent options, but I was looking for something that would help me grow, improve my consistency, and actually enjoy crocheting.

That’s when I discovered Furls, specifically the Furls Streamline Metals, and everything changed.

It did take me about a week to adjust to the feel of the Furls metal hooks. They’re shaped differently and heavier than the hooks I was used to, but once I became comfortable with how to hold them, it was a huge game-changer. When my tension is too tight, I can easily slide the yarn up the neck of the hook, which loosens the stitches just enough to give me wiggle room. When my tension is too loose, the yarn glides smoothly, so I can tighten things up and make adjustments without fighting the hook.

I also love the weight. They’re definitely on the heavier side, but I actually prefer it—it feels stable and balanced in my hand. And the comfort? Incredible. I hold my hook like a knife most of the time, and the shape of the Streamline Metal gives me a natural groove to settle into. Because of that, I can crochet for longer without my hand hurting or cramping.

Furls didn’t just give me a new hook. They gave me confidence in crocheting and made me fall in love with the hobby.

Furls are a little more expensive depending on where you are located, but they often have sales on their Webpage. Right now is Black Friday sale! https://furlscrochet.com/en-ca/collections/crochet-hooks

this is so awesome, Kelli! I feel like it took me a little bit to get used to them as well, so my initial response to them was kind of meh. after giving them another chance, they’ve definitely become a favorite! 🤗 I love the colors you have!

I just completed my order for the Furls Streamline metal hooks! Reading this makes me feel more at ease about my purchase now. I tend to to have tighter tension so I’m curious to see how these will work for me. I rarely ever splurge on things like this, but its the holidays and my bday month so I thought Id treat myself lol. If they don’t work out, they have a good return policy and customer service seems to be prompt with responding.

I like my furls hook too! I have a 4.0 hook and it can wiggle into the tightest of stitches. I do think I’d have an easier time with a slightly larger hook size like 5.0 because it’s so narrow sometimes the yarn slips off but I really do love mine especially for chaining/foundation rows. I rotate between furls, dots, some Susan Bates, and clover amour hooks depending on the size I’m using or the yarn I’m working with. The furls are the prettiest though!

I love my Furls. I have mostly the streamline resin(pretty pretty colors!) but I do have a metal and a wooden one. I love how smoothly my yarn flows across them and they are super comfortable in my hand. Most other hooks are a bit to small/short(for my hand) so crocheting with them give me cramps in my hand. I have multiples of my favorite sizes and I will be getting more in the future.

Furls aren’t for everyone and I would suggest if you are not sure to wait and buy when they are on sale, it is absolutely an investment.
