Yarn Over Hook Launches Summer Stash Bash Soap Sack Initiative with S.A.C.K.

Global crochet community campaign invites makers to turn extra yarn into handmade soap sacks for people in need.

Austin, TX — May 29, 2026 — Yarn Over Hook, the global home of crochet, is launching its Summer Stash Bash Soap Sack Initiative in collaboration with S.A.C.K., Supporting A Community with Kindness, to encourage crocheters around the world to create and donate handmade soap sacks filled with soap for local communities in need.

The initiative is part of Yarn Over Hook’s annual Summer Stash Bash, a seasonal community event designed to help makers use the yarn they already have while participating in creative challenges, featured patterns, giveaways, livestreams, and community projects. This year, the campaign adds a service-driven goal: rally the crochet community to donate 1,000 handmade soap sacks with soap to people and organizations who can use them.

Crocheted soap sacks are small, reusable pouches made to hold a bar of soap. They are practical, approachable projects for crocheters of many skill levels, and they can be made with cotton yarn that many makers already have in their stash. Once completed, the sacks can be paired with soap and donated to shelters, outreach programs, hygiene drives, community groups, and other local organizations.

“This year’s Summer Stash Bash is about transforming extra yarn into something useful, handmade, and deeply human,” said Sammi Jai, Head of Video Production and Crochet Instruction at Yarn Over Hook. “Every soap sack represents care, creativity, and a small act of kindness that can make a real difference in someone’s day.”

The Summer Stash Bash Soap Sack Initiative officially runs from June 3 through July 22, 2026, with weekly community check-ins, featured soap sack patterns, and opportunities for makers to submit their completed projects. Yarn Over Hook will track community participation and celebrate contributors throughout the campaign.

The campaign is being organized in support of S.A.C.K., an organization dedicated to encouraging handmade soap sack donations as a simple but meaningful way to support people facing hygiene insecurity. By combining Yarn Over Hook’s crochet community with S.A.C.K.’s mission, the initiative gives makers a clear, accessible way to use their creativity for good.

Crocheters can participate by making one or more soap sacks, adding a bar of soap, donating locally, and submitting their completed count through Yarn Over Hook’s Summer Stash Bash submission form. Makers are also encouraged to share progress photos, invite friends to participate, and join Yarn Over Hook’s livestream check-ins throughout the event.
