Welcome to Our Annual Summer Stash Bash Event! ☀️🌊🧶

We have loads of fun planned for this year’s stash busting event– free featured patterns, giveaways, games, and more! For our community challenge, we’re teaming up with Soap S.A.C.K. this summer to turn our stashes into something meaningful: 1,000 crocheted soap sacks with soap donated worldwide!

We would love to keep up with what you’re making. Use hashtags #SSB2026 to show off your projects, and #SSBxSACK so we can keep tally of your soap sacks!

• Kick-off Livestream: Wednesday, May 27th at 1:30 PM PT
• Event Duration: June 3 – July 22, 2026
• Weekly Check-ins: Join us live every Wednesday at 1:30 PM PT to learn new featured patterns and check our community progress meter!
• Wrap-up Livestream: July 29th to celebrate our total impact goals.

Yarn Over Hook is so excited for Summer Stash Bash 2026 and teaming up with S.A.C.K. for our community project! Let’s have a chat with Stacy Wiener, the founder of S.A.C.K.!

Ice Breaker! When you are not working on Soap S.A.C.K., what is something simple that brings you joy?
I love the beach, power walking, and reading.

When you think back to the beginning of Soap S.A.C.K., what moment made you realize this small handmade item could become something much bigger?
Initially, it was the overwhelmingly positive reaction from the individuals who received the sacks with soap that made me realize the importance of our mission…spreading kindness to people in need, one soap sack at a time.

Could you share a surprising or deeply moving story about the specific impact a simple soap sack has had on an individual or community?
People are so appreciative to receive a handmade sack with a full bar of soap. They often say, “Someone made this for me?”  The expression on their faces is truly heartwarming. If even for one minute they feel loved, then I know we are bringing joy to people in need. Additionally, our volunteers receive so much gratification and joy in being part of the S.A.C.K. family. They frequently share that making sacks/donating sacks with soap gives them a deep sense of purpose.

Looking ahead, what is your dream for the future of Soap S.A.C.K. and the community of makers supporting it?
In the future, I hope that we continue to inspire other people from all over the world to be part of the S.A.C.K. community.  People in need deserve to feel clean—it shouldn’t be a privilege but a human right. It is also a dream for S.A.C.K. to partner with a soap company.

What is your personal favorite yarn craft, and do you have a go-to stitch or pattern when you need to unwind?
Crocheting is definitely my favorite craft!  When I’m watching television/YouTube videos, I like to crochet tote bags.

Yarn Over Hook’s goal is to help donate 1,000 soap sacks through this Summer Stash Bash. What would you say to the crocheters who are joining this effort from around the world?
I am so appreciative to each and every crocheter who is participating in the Summer Stash Bash!  Your support and love for the S.A.C.K. mission means the world to me!  I hope that, as you are crocheting sacks, it brings you joy knowing that the people who receive them will feel a sense of love.

Crocheting 1,000 Soap Sacks!

Our goal for Summer Stash Bash this year is to crochet and donate 1,000 soap sacks with unopened bars of soap in them to people in need ALL OVER THE WORLD! Sammi and Alexis have both written patterns exclusively for this event that you can use for your soap sacks, but feel free to use whatever pattern floats your boat!

Soap Sack Donation Guidelines

To make sure donations are useful and aligned with S.A.C.K.’s guidance, please follow these guidelines:

Yarn Material: Soap sacks should be made with cotton or cotton-blend yarn.

Please Include the Soap: Every donated soap sack should include a full-size bar of soap in its original packaging.

Donate Locally: Please donate your finished soap sacks in your local community whenever possible. Look up food pantries, food banks, homeless shelters, veteran clinics, social service agencies, or other community organizations near you.

Share Your Impact

We want to see your creations and celebrate the impact of this community effort. When you donate, please share a photo, or update, of your soap sack on social media to inspire others to join the bash.
